A workshop was held at the Cork Environmental Forum Seminar in the Metropole Hotel in Cork and this time we focused on Waste. How will we deal with different kinds of waste in 2015? We only had an hour and a half, so we kicked of with Colin Campbell giving an abbreviated introduction to Peak Oil followed by Phoebe Bright giving a brief overview of Scenario Planning. Then we broke into four groups to focus on the scenarios. A lively time was had by all and as usual there was not enough time to really get to grips with the subject. However and interesting set of headlines was generated which will be going up on the website shortly. Thank you everyone for your participation.

Preparing Ireland for an Energy-Scarce Future
A one-day seminar for senior businesspeople and civil servants is being held in Dublin next Wednesday (June 1st) to consider how their organisations may have to change the way they work if energy becomes very much more costly in future. The seminar is being run by Feasta, the Foundation for the Economics of Sustainability, as part of a project funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Seminar, Wednesday June 1st, 2005
Mont Clare Hotel, Dublin 2
Purpose of this seminar is to discuss the implications for Ireland of four possible scenarios developed by FEASTA as part of a series of EPA funded research projects which are intended as contributions to the necessary debate on Sustainable Development. FEASTA have developed four plausible scenarios which demonstrate a range of possible futures. Our key criteria are when oil peaks and how we prepare/respond to it. These scenarios are:
- Business As Usual - Oil does not peak until 2030 and we do not prepare until the market triggers change shortly before peak.
- Enlightened Transition - Oil does not peak until 2030 but we start actively preparing for a change to non-fossil fuels.
- Fair Shares - Oil peaks within the next two years and we respond by introducing a rationing system in order to stabalise the economy.
- Localisation - Oil peaks within the next two years and the free-market dictates the price and availability of oil.
To find out more about Energy Scenarios Ireland you can read an
Overview. Or there is more detail available at the Energy Scenarios Ireland Wiki
There are still some places available. To find out more contact Clare at FEASTA on (353) 1 405 3615

The Energy Scenarios Ireland workshop at the Green Party Conference in Cork was a great success. About 40 people attended and generated a substantial amount of energy and output! Unfortunately there was only an hour and everyone was still in full flow when we had to stop!
Thanks to all the people that contributed, here are some of them http://info.energyscenariosireland.com/Credits
