Envisioning Ireland’s Energy Future

09.45 - Welcome by Larry Staudt

10.00 - The reality of oil and gas depletion and its possible effects of energy prices and economic growth. Richard Douthwaite

11.00 - Tea break

11.30 - Scenario Planning - what it is, why we are using it, and how the ECCO model enables us to develop each scenario. Presentation of our four initial scenarios and the reasons why we now focus on two. Phoebe Bright and Ray Byrne

12.00 - Thinking through the consequences of the two scenarios. (Participants will be set the task of writing news stories from the year 2015 from the perspective of their organisations).

13.00 - Lunch

13.45 - Introduction to the afternoon sessions by Larry Staudt, who will alert people to the questions to be discussed later.

Brief presentations by representatives from the major sectors on how they think high energy prices will affect they way they operate. Their current challenges and how other sectors could help them adapt. The sectors and speakers are:

1. Energy supply Torben Andersen, Airtricity
2. Transport Jimmy Quinn, Irish Road Haulage Association
3 Construction Jay Stuart, Ecoco
4. Retail - Mike Dooley, Dunnes Stores
5. Manufacturing David Manning, IBEC

15.45 Table-by-table discussion on what steps government and the various sectors need to take over the next ten years to reduce their exposure to highly-priced energy. Each table will represent a sector.

16.30 Report to the whole attendance by each table. Listing of the various points made.
